The 2011 International Fall Seminar will run from September 11th through September 16th. This seminar is for all skill levels - Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. It is geared towards Law Enforcement, SAR, and anybody who just wants to learn. In addition to our Man Trailing and Man Tracking, we are now offering Human Remain Detection (HRD) training and certification, for both land and water. When registering, you will select a primary Area of Training, either Mantrailing or Human Remains Detection. If you choose Mantrailing, you will also need to select a level. We have three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
Our Advanced Mantrailing Course far exceeds any Search & Rescue or Law Enforcement Standards. The training is very physically challenging for both handler and K9. It is not for the faint of heart. The trails will range from 2 to 6 miles in length and will cover rough terrain through rugged country. Each trail will be scenario-based with hazards and obstacles along the way. Our Master Trainers have consistently trained on these type trails for over 20 years each. Our Basic and Intermediate Mantrailing Courses cover all the basics, including: Scent Theory, Mantrailing (back to basics), Mantracking, Reading Your Dog and more. Trails range from puppy trails to longer, more complicated intermediate trails. These courses are beneficial for the very beginners, as well as the seasoned mantrailer. Our Human Remains Detection (HRD) Course offers training for both Land and Water. This course is limited to Search and Rescue personnel who are dedicated to applying themselves and working toward a National Certification. See our Standards at http://www.ampwda.com/standards.html.
Certification opportunities will be available for Man Trailing, Man Tracking, HRD - Land and HRD - Water. Each handler will receive one certification attempt with their paid academy tuition.
There will be various special classes, including: Trail Motivation, Basic & Advanced Man Tracking (without the dog), How To Use A GPS With Your Training, K-9 First Aid, Acquainting your K9 to Firearms, and much more.
There will be tactical trailing for Law Enforcement teams with real-life scenarios, K-9 demonstrations and more. Of course, most of the time you will be out in the field working your dog. At the end of the day, you can choose from various optional activities, enjoy pleasant conversation around the campfire or just relax. Our base camp is located on the A-I Campus nestled in the woods of beautiful Parke County, Indiana (Home of the Covered Bridge Festival). The facilities are very nice, up to date and air conditioned. The rooms are semi-private, with a bathroom shared only with the adjacent room. We have over 580 acres right on the premises. This means less driving and more trailing. We also have access to thousands of additional acreage very near the camp.
Instruction will be headed up by our four Master Trainers: Tony Keith, Dave Wheeler, John Holcomb and Tracy Sargent. These four have well over 100 years of combined professional K-9 experience. After that, we will kick things off with a cookout and social gathering to let everybody get acquainted. Classes start Monday morning at 8AM sharp. The seminar will conclude on Friday morning.
The cost for the seminar is $465.00 for members, $495.00 for non-members. This fee is all-inclusive and includes: lodging at our base camp, all meals, all academy material, limited edition 2011 Fall Seminar T-Shirt, Photo CD of all the activities and an Official AMPWDA Certification (so long as the standards are met).
