Mike Pratt
AMPWDA Trainer
Mike has been working dogs for over 45 years in multiple
disciplines with multiple breeds. As he was growing up, he learned
to respect the ability of the working K9 from his father, who served two consecutive terms as a K9 handler in Vietnam.
As his
father passed down his love, compassion and respect for working dogs
to Mike, Mike did the same for his daughter (Lacy Pratt Fowler).
Throughout the years, he loved working with his daughter and
assisting her SAR team by setting up
training scenarios and providing support for searches.
Since 2018, Mike has worked closely with Pam Bennett. Together they
have hosted and worked at multiple SAR seminars for both land and
water HRD. Mike built their K9 SAR facility, complete with
dock diving, rubble piles, vehicles, and 30X40 training building.
This facility is built on 115 acres that offers a wilderness agility
area and areas for all K9 SAR related disciplines.
Mike joined the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department Canine Unit in
2019. He sets up trainings, assists on searches, teaches GPS skills
and was instrumental in implementing the use of GPS collars by K9 handlers to be able to
accurately track completed search areas while on a search mission.
Mike is well versed in K9 body language and enjoys discussing and
passing on this knowledge to other K9 handlers.
