Force Base, North Dakota. Being born into a military family he moved
around a lot and attend multiple elementary schools and middle
schools. During his childhood Michael had the opportunity to observe
several military working dog demonstrations on the bases where he
lived. After seeing the first demonstration he become captivated
with the way these dogs worked and knew that becoming a handler one
day was a goal.
In June 2001 Michael graduated from Faith Baptist School in
Belleville, Illinois and in October Michael joined the United States
Air Force where he started his law enforcement carrier and pursuit
of his K-9 Handler goals. Once assigned to his duty station of
Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, Michael quickly sought out
the working dog kennels on the base and began volunteering his time
to assist in cleaning the kennels and training the dogs in any way
he could.
In October 2007 Michael separated from the Air Force with an
honorable discharge and continued his law enforcement career and K-9
handler pursuit with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in
Tennessee. Michael attended multiple K-9 training seminars to gain
as much knowledge as he possible could in regards to not only
working a dog but also how to train new dogs for the agency. In 2018
after many years of hard work and dedication Michael was selected to
become a K-9 Handler for the WCSO. Michael worked a multi-purpose
narcotics/patrol K-9 (K9 Mafia). During their time working together
they were responsible for removing countless pounds of illegal
narcotics from the streets of Washington County as well as multiple
tracks and apprehensions of dangerous felons wanted by not only
their agency but surrounding counties also. Before K9 Mafia’s
retirement in September 2024 Michael and K9 Mafia received multiple
certifications through NNDDA and NAPWDA. In 2024 Michael attended a
K-9 supervision course through Custom Canine Unlimited.
In September of 2024 Michael was moved from the patrol division to
the training division of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, was
assigned the duties of not only training the officers of the agency
